CROATIAN CAPOEIRA UNION

Welcome to the official pages of the Croatian Capoeira Union!!!

The Croatian Capoeira Union is an association of organizations and unions that deal with capoeira in Croatia.

First steps of capoeira in Croatia took place in 2002 in Zagreb but very soon it started growing independently in other cities (Osijek, Pula). Capoeira was, at that time, mostly unknown to the wider public and was undertaken by only a couple of enthusiasts in these three cities. As time went by, the number of capoeira lovers grew and the schools evolved. At the end of 2003 two schools from Zagreb ("Capoeira Angola Zagreb" and "Capoeira Regional Zagreb – grupo Amazonas") started a cooperation and founded the "Croatian Capoeira Union". In 2006 the Union was enriched by a new memeber – Association "Capoeira Pula" from Pula.

The idea of the Union is mutual respect and cooperation of the schools and the creation of one strong capoeira community in Croatia. The obligations of the Union's members include organization of various and numerous capoeira events in Croatia, the work on improvement and development of each individual school, show of support for other memebers of the Union and fortification of mutual respect.

Today, capoeira is already a widely popular form of recreation in Croatia while making a part of the urban culture. A great number of workshops, batizados, spring and summer camps have taken place and the number of capoeiristas in Croatia is growing from day to day. Union's primary vision has been realized in its major part and for the future is left only with further strengthening and enlargement of the (already great) Croatian capoeira community...
